The epidemic of drug use began in early to mid 1900's. This was when Russia was the Soviet Union and falling. Its locked doors were becoming rusty and fell unchained, they rotted on the ground, the population made the doors push as open as they pleased.

Young people felt only a ghost of an established government. They became unemployed, poor and eager to test the waters. These waters contained poison...and the greatest one, that was easy to obtain and most toxic, was drugs. The users choice, mainly...

Heroin use spread throughout the lands becoming easy to buy, sell and use until around later that century. It increased as time divulged further into war, frankly because chaotic times meant busy law enforcement, too busy to control everything, which is when things began slipping through the cracks.
There's a war going on!- the Soviet Union is falling...who cares about some stupid kids doing drugs,.. right? Yeah, well its not exactly that point blank now is it, things never are. Now, lets try some simply logic

Teenagers  + No Supervision = SEX!

           Besides teenagers aren't afraid.
Most teenagers think that their immortal. No harm can befall them, others simple shut down and stop caring. No one to look out for them and them not having anything secure with their world in the Soviet Union crumbling.

In Russia heroin was administered into the bloodstream. This is what set them apart from the United States and Western Europe . In these places heroin was snorted or smoked and then as a last as well as desperate resort was to inject the heroin into the body. Russia was different. They never really bothered with many methods the point was to get the high as soon as possible, for them this was injection. teenagers as well as adults and countless others grew up learning how to use syringes.

Remember the game you might've played when you were little, jumping from furniture to furniture in your home as if the floor was lava and will bring you to your death if touched?, well it was like that. Syringes were left all over the place in Russia. Thrown carelessly, other's picking them up and reusing them, even in the reach of small children.

In "REUTOV, Russia -- Nikolai Leonov was walking through this Moscow suburb with his 2-year-old daughter when the toddler bent down and picked up a bloodied syringe from the grass. "I snatched it away from her a second before she could hurt herself," Leonov said, still shaken days later" (Mirovalev, Mansur. "g".).

                                                            Sex + Drugs = DISEASE

The AIDS/HIV virus is the largest disease problem in Russia. It constantly continues to grow, it has even become more durable and produced new strains from itself.
